Sharing is caring!

The two most common pets that people bring into their home are dogs and cats. Both will have, from time to time, their accidents in your home. The most frequent accident these pets seem to have is urination. Urine will leave unsightly yellow stains in your carpet. However, the main reason you’ll want to clean up the accident quickly is to prevent the bacteria found in urine from soaking into your carpet. As urine sets in carpet, it will develop bacteria which is the source of the odor. There have been some studies which prove bacteria is linked to chronic headaches and even some respiratory problems. For those pet owners, Ameribest Carpet Cleaning will share how to properly clean pet urine and how to remove pet odors out of your carpet for a healthier living environment.

Pet Urine Removal & Carpet Cleaning Services

It is critical to clean your pet’s urine as soon as it occurs. However, we also understand most accidents occur while the owner isn't at home. If you’re able to clean the mess as it occurs, it is easier to remove most of the urine out of the carpet. As soon as the accident occurs, grab a dry cloth or paper towel and fold them together so it’s thick. Place it on top of the urine. Either press down and hold it there so the moisture gets absorbed into the towels or place a heavy object on top of the paper towel or cloth. You may want to put a piece of plastic in between to keep the urine off the weighted object. After a few minutes, most of the moisture should be in the cloth or paper towel and out of the carpet. Next you can use a mixture of white wine vinegar and water in equal ratio into a bowl or even a spray bottle and apply the mixture on the stain. Vinegar works great to kill the bacteria in the urine and prevent odors along with the stains. After you let the mixture soak on the stain for a few minutes, once again use paper towel or a white cleaning cloth and press and hold down on the stain. This will absorb the mixture out of the carpet. Afterward, allow the area to dry and vacuum it to restore the pile.

Best Carpet Cleaner Solution for Old Pet Urine Odors

If the you discover an older accident and it’s mostly dry, start by vacuuming the area thoroughly. Once again mix together the water and vinegar in a cup or bowl. Pour the mixture over the dried stain to completely soak the area. Let it soak on the stain for about 15 minutes. You want the mixture to penetrate deep in to the carpet and even the padding to kill the bacteria caused by the ammonia in the urine. If the stain is severe mix together 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap, and ½ cup of hydrogen peroxide. Before treating the stain make sure to use the paper towel trick to remove most of the mixture out of the carpet first. Next, pour the hydrogen peroxide mixture on the stain, and with a scrub brush, gently scrub the stain to clear away and remove as much of the moisture as you can, using paper towel. Rinse the area with water and using a dry cloth or paper towel, press down to help dry the area. Allow the carpet to completely dry and then sprinkle baking soda over the affected area. Let the baking soda set over night to remove any lingering odors. The next day vacuum the baking soda up.
