Sharing is caring!

BBQs are frequently common as they are summer long. With the frequent BBQs, many homeowners will likely experience the greasy offerings plummeting on the carpets. Today, we at Ameri-Best Carpet Cleaning would like to share a method on removing the grease spots from your carpets.

Supplies Needed to Remove Grease Stains from Carpet

Gather the following items (be sure to apply the correct solution for the carpet type):
- Cleaning Solution:
• Synthetic – Combine in a spray bottle 4 cups of cold water, 1 tbsp ammonia, and ¼ tsp of mild liquid dish soap.
• Oriental – In a spray bottle mix 2 parts cold water, 1 part white vinegar.
• Wool – Dry cleaning solvent (follow the label’s directions).
- White, clean cloths or paper towels.
- Spray bottle with pure cold water.
- Heavy objects. (using them as weight)
- Vacuum.

Note: Whether you use a DIY treatment or a commercial product, test it on the carpet in an inconspicuous area to ensure it doesn’t, discolor, or damage the fibers.

How to Get Grease Stains Out of Carpet

1) Use a dry cloth or paper towel to blot at the grease, removing as much of it as possible. Throughout the treatment, always blot, do not rub or scrub or you will only push the grease out and down. Start on the outer perimeter of the spot and work your way towards the center for efficient containment.
2) Apply the correlating solution to the type of carpet you have generously; do not over saturate and let it sit for five minutes.
3) Using a fresh cloth or paper towel, begin blotting at the grease until it has completely dissolved. You will likely need to use multiple paper towels or cloths as you go once it has absorbed the grease to its compacity. Repeat application and blotting as necessary until the grease is gone.
4) Once the grease is removed, administer the plain water and use a dry cloth or towel to dry the area as best you can. Leaving behind the solution residue will attract dirt and dust, making the spot look brown soon.
5) After you removed as much moisture as possible, place a dry cloth or towel on top of the spot following with the weights. Let it sit over night to ensure all the moisture is absorbed from the carpets.
6) Only after the area is completely dry, vacuum the area to let the fibers return to their normal texture.

Additional Cleaning Tips:
1) Synthetic carpets can be treated with mineral spirits, paint thinner, rubbing alcohol, or even lighter fluid in very small doses applied to a cotton ball. Use with caution and at your own risk as most of these remedies are highly flammable.
2) To keep the stain from setting, only use cool water.
3) Avoid bleach as it will lighten your carpets as well as laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent as they can damage your carpets. Never use ammonia wool carpets.
