Most people consider their homes a safe haven, their sanctuary away from the dangers of the outside world. Unfortunately, what you may not know is that the longer you spend inside your home the more it negatively impacts your health. If you notice your skin feeling dry and itchy, your allergy symptoms occurring more frequently or for longer duration, your eyes are dryer or redder, or excessive sneezing is occurring among other symptoms; these are all indicators that your home is having negative effects on your health. The issue is poor indoor air quality or indoor air pollution. It is the result of quantities of dust, mold, dust mites, chemicals, and other microbial organisms in the air. Today, we at Ameri-Best Carpet Cleaning would like to point out where these assailants are coming from that is making your home sick.

Signs of Sick House Syndrome Solutions

1) Leaky Faucets or Pipes. The plumbing that is experiencing leaks may not always be seen or heard. Any obvious drips or leaks in the faucets or pipes should be promptly repaired. Indicators of the leaks that are behind the walls are unexplained increases in the water bill. You can call a plumber for an inspection. But leaving water leaks unrepaired inevitably result in water damage and mold, bacteria and other microbial problems in your home. Long term exposure will frequent produce flu-like symptoms. Keeping your home dry keeps your home safe. Take advantage of your exhaust fans in the bathrooms to ensure the moisture is adequately removed after showers as well.
2) Cleaning Products. Buying commercial cleaning products is a natural impulse in an effort to keep your home relatively clean. As you want to kill the bacteria and disinfect the surfaces of your home you are inadvertently producing chemical footprints in the air that may lead to headaches, eye irritation, and breathing problems. To avoid this, opt for “greener products” and always follow the label’s directions and never use more than is recommended. Keep in mind that air fresheners smell nice for a short time, but it just puts more chemicals into the air. Consider the natural DIY cleaning products that are just as effective without leaving behind chemical residues like vinegar and baking soda.
3) HVAC System. The HVAC system is often the biggest culprit for poor air quality. The air conditioners produce condensation and trace amounts of moisture are introduced into the ducts that can lead to bold and other bacteria. Dirt, dust, and other contaminants throughout your home are blown in from the dirty vents. Additionally, grease will build up on the system and the chemicals will filter into the air. Once a year have your air conditioner, furnace, air ducts, and the rest of the system tuned-up and cleaned by a professional. Additionally, wipe the dust off your home regularly.
4) Bathroom and Kitchen. To prevent the bacteria from spreading it is important that you clean your shower, bathtub and toilet as well as the bath mat and towels frequently. Be sure to periodically clean out the refrigerator, cupboards and sinks; toss any expired food. Neglecting these duties seriously impacts your health.
5) Floor & Upholstered Furniture Cleaning. Found on all pieces of upholstery and mattresses as well as carpets and rugs, are dust mites. Not only are they covered in dust mites, but dead skin cells, pet dander, shed hair, sweat, and other particulates are riddled all over the couches, recliners, pillow cases, bedding, and mattresses. Minimize the effects by having your mattresses and upholstery, rugs and carpets cleaned by a professional once or twice a year and maintain them in between services.
6) Vacuum Cleaner. The vacuum cleaner may be expelling dust right back into the air. Ensure it is HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter equipped. Be sure to change the bag or empty the bin and wash clean the vacuum monthly.
